Hamilton’s Farewell, FIA Shake-up, and More

Formula 1 continues to be a hotbed of news and drama. From Lewis Hamilton’s farewell tour to the ongoing turmoil within the FIA, there’s plenty to discuss. We also delve into McLaren‘s controversial priorities, Ricciardo‘s quiet exit, and Verstappen‘s scathing comment on F1’s new launch event.

Hamilton’s Farewell Tour

Lewis Hamilton’s illustrious career with Mercedes is coming to an end. To commemorate this historic partnership, Mercedes is offering fans a chance to be part of history. 150 lucky fans in Abu Dhabi will have their names inscribed on Hamilton’s final W15 car with a free-to-enter prize draw launched, creating a lasting legacy.

Hamilton and Mercedes have shattered records together since joining forces in 2013, Hamilton winning six of his seven World titles in Mercedes colors, but the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will mark the final time that the Brit heads into F1 battle as a Mercedes driver.

FIA Faces More Turmoil

The FIA continues to experience significant changes. Following the departure of race director Niels Wittich, compliance officer Paolo Basarri has also left the organization. President Mohammed Ben Sulayem apparently has made the call to relieve Basarri of his duties. These departures raise questions about the future direction of the FIA and its ability to maintain consistency and fairness in the sport.

McLaren’s Controversial Priorities

McLaren’s decision to prioritize the Constructors’ Championship over the Drivers’ Championship has drawn criticism from former F1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve. Villeneuve believes that this approach is indicative of a team that lacks the ambition to win titles.

Ricciardo’s Quiet Exit

Daniel Ricciardo‘s departure from Red Bull‘s junior team, VCARB, was marked by a lack of fanfare. Despite being a popular figure in the sport, Ricciardo’s exit was relatively understated. VCARB CEO Peter Bayer explained that Ricciardo preferred a quiet departure without any special celebrations.

Verstappen’s Scathing Comment on F1’s New Launch Event

Formula 1 has announced a new initiative for the 2025 season, where all 10 teams will unveil their cars at a single event in London. However, Max Verstappen expressed his disdain for the event, suggesting that he would prefer to avoid it altogether.
